1. The short version
- No AI answers your questions, gives you health information, or makes decisions about you. There is no chatbot and no AI assistant on BirthBridge.
- Some of our own guide and resource pages are written with AI assistance, and every one of them says so on the page. Section 3 explains what that means and what it does not.
- Your messages are never used to train AI models, by us or by any company we work with.
- Search results are ordered by a computer, but that is ordinary software, not AI, and it is not a decision about you.
- If we ever add an AI feature that interacts with you, we will tell you before it ships, we will label it, and we will update this page.
2. What is actually running today
Nothing on BirthBridge interacts with you using artificial intelligence. There is no chatbot, no AI assistant, no AI matching, no AI moderation, no AI credential review, and no AI support agent. Nobody's account, listing, or booking is decided by a machine.
Where AI is used, it is used in one place: helping to write our own guide and resource pages — the cost guides, the "find a…" pages, and pages like our Medicaid guide. Every one of those pages carries a notice saying so, at the bottom of the page, in plain words.
Profiles, articles, and reviews are written by the professionals and families using the platform, not by us and not by AI. Section 5 covers what we require of them.
Search and ordering
Search results are ordered automatically, using location, the type of support you asked for, availability, profile completeness, and how well a listing matches your search. This is conventional software, not machine learning.
It is not a decision about you. It does not affect your access to anything, your price, or your rights. Section 3.1 of the Privacy Policy says the same, and Schedule B5 covers what Quebec's Law 25 requires about automated decisions.
Section 3 of the Terms sets out what money can and cannot buy in that ordering. In short: no one can pay for a position in your results, and any paid placement will be labelled as an advertisement.
3. Our guide and resource pages
Some of the guides and resource pages we write ourselves are produced with AI assistance. These are pages like our birth cost guides, our "find a doula near me" pages, and our Medicaid coverage guide.
Every one of them says so on the page. You will find a notice at the bottom telling you the page was written with AI assistance, pointing you to the sources, and giving you an address to write to if something is wrong.
What we do to keep them accurate:
- We cite our sources and link to them. Where a page makes a factual claim about coverage, cost, or law, you can follow the link and check it yourself. If we cannot source a claim, we do not make it.
- We date the information, so you can see how current it is.
- We fix what you tell us is wrong. A correction from a family or a professional is the most valuable thing we get, and we act on it rather than defending the page.
What we do not claim:
- We do not claim these pages are reviewed by a birth professional. If we build that review process, we will say so here and on the pages themselves, and not before.
- They are general information, not advice about you. They do not know your pregnancy, your history, your plan, or your circumstances.
- They are not medical or legal advice. For anything that matters to your care, talk to your provider. For anything about your coverage, talk to your plan or your state Medicaid agency — they are the ones who decide, not us.
If you would rather not read AI-assisted writing, the notice tells you which pages those are, and everything a professional wrote is theirs and marked as theirs.
4. Your information and AI training
We do not use your information to train artificial intelligence models. We do not let anyone else use it to train theirs.
This covers your messages, what you upload, your Family Journey, your searches, your bookings, your reviews, and everything else you put into BirthBridge. It is stated in the Health Information Policy, in Health Information Agreements as a contractual commitment to clinics and custodians, and here.
Our service providers are contractually bound not to use information we send them for their own purposes, which includes model training.
Scraping. Section 11 of the Terms prohibits scraping the Platform or using its data to train models without our written permission. Professional profiles are public so that families can find people. They are not a training set.
5. If a professional uses AI
Professionals are independent businesses, and some may use AI tools in their own work — to draft a profile, write an article, or manage their calendar. That is their choice and their responsibility, and it happens on their own systems, not ours.
What our Terms require of them either way:
- Everything on a profile must be accurate, however it was written.
- Nobody may give medical advice they are not qualified to give, or make health claims they cannot support.
- Reviews must be genuine, written by a real person about a real experience. AI-generated reviews are fake reviews and we remove them and act on the account.
If you think a professional's listing or article is misleading, however it was written, tell us at hello@mybirthbridge.com.
6. What we commit to if we add AI
These are the rules any feature that interacts with you has to meet. We are writing them now, while nothing is at stake.
We will tell you. Any AI feature you interact with will be labelled where you meet it, in plain words, not in a footnote. We will update this page before it ships, not after.
We will not use AI to give health advice. Not to answer your clinical question, not to interpret a symptom, not to tell you what to do about your pregnancy, your birth, or your baby. That is a line we do not intend to approach.
A person decides anything that matters. No AI system will suspend an account, reject a credential, remove a listing, deny a refund, or decide a report by itself. Where AI helps with a decision, a person reviews it before it takes effect, and you can ask for a human review and get one.
We will not train on your information, and we will not let a vendor do it.
We will not use AI to profile you, to infer things about your health you did not tell us, or to decide what you are shown based on inferences about your pregnancy.
We will check it before and while it runs, for accuracy and for bias — including bias against Black and Indigenous families, who face worse maternal outcomes and for whom a biased system would compound a harm that already exists. If we cannot evidence that a feature is fair, it does not ship.
We will tell you when it is wrong. If an AI feature gives you bad information, we will correct it and say so, rather than quietly changing it.
You will be able to turn it off, unless it is something the platform cannot run without — and if it is, we will explain why.
7. The rules we are working to
Artificial intelligence regulation is moving, and it differs by state and province. Rather than claim compliance with a moving target, we have written Section 6 to meet the strictest reasonable standard we are aware of, including transparency and human-review expectations under Quebec's Law 25, Colorado's artificial intelligence legislation, state laws requiring disclosure of AI in consumer interactions, and the federal guidance issued in Canada.
The commitments in Section 6 are ours. They are not a certification, and we do not hold ourselves out as audited against an external AI standard.
