The Altruistic Doula

Hi, I’m Janicia Cosey, a passionate Birth, Postpartum, and Sibling Doula serving families in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas. Originally from Smithfield, North Carolina, I’ve always had a deep love for caregiving and working with children. My path to becoming a doula began in an unexpected but beautiful way—through the process of donating my eggs to families trying to conceive. That experience opened my eyes to the many ways people bring life into the world and sparked a calling within me: How else can I support families on this journey?

With over eight years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant in both North Carolina and Virginia, I’ve developed a strong foundation in providing compassionate, whole-person care. I've since expanded that care to include certified training in both Birth and Postpartum Doula support through DONA and Common Sense Childbirth, as well as Lactation Basics.

My work is rooted in a deep belief in complete support—meeting physical, emotional, and informational needs to help individuals and families feel confident and cared for during life’s transitions. I cherish the opportunity to encourage, educate, and walk alongside growing families as they welcome new life and adjust to a new rhythm.

I’m the eldest of 11 siblings and proudly became an auntie in March 2022! I love reading, traveling, connecting with others, and yes—good food is always a must! Being a doula has allowed me to live out my values of empathy, education, and community while building meaningful, lasting relationships with families.
